The Repsol Moto2 rider has been successfully operated on, the aim being to end the problems he has been having with his eye and he will now continue with his recovery at home. Marc Márquez had the operation this Monday at the Unidad de Cirugía Mayor ambulatoria at the Instituto Oftalmológico del Hospital Clínico de Barcelona and was carried out by Doctor Bernardo Sánchez Dalmau.

The surgeon performed the operation after Marc Márquez complained of a paralysis in the muscle over his right eye after an accident in free practice during the build-up to last season`s Malaysian Grand Prix. “The patient received a local anaesthetic and the operation can be declared a success” said Doctor Sánchez who allowed Marc to go home “so that he can continue his recovery there”.

The Repsol rider has gradually been recovering the sight in his right-eye over the last few months but had not reached the optimum level necessary for him to race or ride at a professional level. After visiting several specialists the diagnosis was that to stabilise his sight an operation was necessary, hence this minor surgery.

Now Marc Márquez must have complete rest at the start of his recovery. The first pre-season practice sessions in the Moto2 class are scheduled between 8th – 10th February at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste (Valencia) and he is not yet ruled out. The decision on whether to take part will be made at the end of this month and will depend on his recovery and an examination by specialists.
