Repsol Chairman Antonio Brufau discusses the highlights of 2010.
2010 was a good year for Repsol. We continued to apply our strategic plan, and have seen very positive results in all business lines.
Added to these achievements, the balance sheet has shown a net profit of 4.693 billion euros. Evidently, a result of this magnitude includes the excellent income gained from certain partnerships, mainly the operations undertaken in Brazil with our SINOPEC partners.
So, in the context of such a difficult year, Repsol has amply met the challenges facing it. The work done in Brazil, together with other business concerns in the Gulf of Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru and Algeria and other areas where we have ongoing projects, have enabled us to ensure future growth.
We are also very proud of two major projects - namely, the Cartagena Refinery and Petronor - that will greatly strengthen Europe's refinery system. We will continue to explore business opportunities, backed by our solid financial situation.
It is very important to be a sustainable, responsible company that contributes to the security of the energy supply, but also one that is committed to the welfare of the members of our society. The numerous awards we received in different fields of activity in 2010 bear witness to this commitment
These thoughts lead us to the conclusion that, at the end of the day, our main objective is to be an efficient, profitable company with a long-term outlook, that is fully accepted by society. I think that in Repsol the fruits of our labour are clearly seen, and through our united efforts we will continue to create a better society.
